ALFRED, NY – Dana Torchia (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Twp.), a freshman third baseman on the Alfred University softball team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week.

Torchia was honored for her play in 12 games last week on the Saxons’ Spring Break trip to Tuscon, AZ. She went a combined 22-for-38 (.579 batting average) with a pair of doubles, six RBIs, 11 runs scored and three stolen bases.

Alfred (4-8) is scheduled to play next on Friday, March 22, in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Pitt-Bradford. The Saxons are scheduled to play their home-opening doubleheader, on the team’s new on-campus field, on Sunday, March 24, against Penn College. AU was to open its new field on Wednesday, March 20, against RIT, but the twinbill was postponed to April 2 due to poor weather.
