OLEAN, NY — The Alfred University men’s tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday at the indoor courts in Olean. The Saxons defeated Pitt-Bradford, 8-1, then lost to Penn State-Behrend by the same score.
In the match against Pitt-Bradford, AU got singles wins from freshman Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa), 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 in first singles; sophomore Peter Benoit (Gasport, NY/Barker) 6-2, 6-4 in second singles; sophomore Michael Graham (Elmira, NY/Southside), 6-1, 6-3 in third singles; freshman Dan Baruch (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow), who won the first set of fourth singles, 6-1, before his opponent retired; and junior Dalton Divine (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent), 8-3 in sixth singles.
AU swept the doubles match against Pitt-Bradford. Doud and Benoit won first doubles, 8-5; Graham and senior Trenton Berardi (Warren, PA/Warren) won second doubles, 8-6; and Baruch and sophomore Lucas Krenzer (Rochester, NY/Wheatland-Chili) won third doubles, 8-1.
Alfred’s lone win against Behrend came in third doubles, where Baruch and Krenzer claimed an 8-2 victory.
With the weekend split, Alfred’s overall record is 2-2; the Saxons split a pair of matches during the fall, beating Oswego and losing to Roberts Wesleyan. The team is in action next on Saturday, March 2, at 6 p.m. at D’Youville.
