ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men’s basketball team lost to Houghton College in their second Empire 8 meeting, 89-85, Saturday afternoon.

AU headed into intermission only trailing 38-36 thanks in part to a quick start by junior guard Thomas Tsatsis (Neponsit, NY/Townsend Harris) (10 first-half points). With AU trailing 78-76, Tsatsis made a layup as time expired to send the game into overtime.

Tsatsis and Senior guard Brett Dennis (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) led the Saxons with 15 points apiece. Senior guard Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) scored 14 points while sophomore guard Tim Pacheco (Mt. Pocono, PA/Pocono Mountain East) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and scored 11 points. Junior forward Jason Ruback (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) also scored 10 points.

Alfred (6-17, 3-11 Empire 8) hosts Stevens, Friday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m.
