AU ski teams race at Swain

SWAIN, NY — The Alfred University men’s and women’s Alpine ski teams competed Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 2 and 3) at the AU-hosted races at Swain. Nine teams competed: the AU men took fourth and the Alfred women were fifth.

           

The AU men took fourth in both the giant slalom Saturday and the slalom on Sunday; the Saxon women placed fifth in both the GS and slalom.

 

In Saturday’s giant slalom, senior Steve Barton (Dansville, NY/Dansville) placed sixth to pace the AU men. Sophomore Jeremy Osak (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) was 16th; freshman Cody Towner (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was 20th; senior Bob Celino (Bath, NY/Haverling) was 24th.

 

Barton was 12th in Sunday’s slalom; Osak was 14th; freshman Bryce Lloyd (Hartland, VT/Sharon Academy) was 22nd; Towner was 23rd; and Cilino was 24th.

 

Freshman Holly Mager (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) led the Alfred women in the giant slalom, taking ninth. Senior Claire Dvorak (Tully, NY/Tully) was 12th; junior Rebecca Spitz (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) was 20th; junior Dianne Mattar (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) was 23rd; and freshman Kaitlyn Tepper (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was 25th.

 

In Sunday’s slalom, Mager was 12th; Spitz was 11th; Dvorak was 21st; Tepper was 26th; and Mattar was 31st.

 

Alfred is in action next on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10, at GoreMountain in North Creek,NY.
