Five AU athletic teams cited for excellence in the classroom

ALFRED, NY – Five Alfred University varsity sports teams have earned academic honors from the Empire 8 Conference, the league announced this week.

           

The Empire 8 announced teams that earned All-Academic honors for the Fall 2012 semester; named from Alfred University were the equestrian team, the women’s cross country team, the women’s lacrosse team, the women’s soccer team and the women’s tennis team. Teams earn All-Academic honors from the conference for having a cumulative team grade point average of at least 3.20.

 

The equestrian team had a Fall 2012 GPA of 3.27; the women’s cross country team’s was 3.28; the women’s lacrosse team’s was 3.27; the women’s soccer team’s was 3.24; and the women’s tennis team’s was 3.37.

 

The conference also announced its President’s List for the Fall 2012 semester and 43 AU student-athletes were honored. A student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.75 to earn President’s List honors. Twelve members of the equestrian team were honored; two from women’s cross country; three from women’s lacrosse; two from women’s soccer; and three from women’s tennis.

Sean Locker The sophomore from Corning, NY, took second in the javelin throw at the Oneonta State Invitational outdoor track and field meet with a heave of 51.53 meters.

Athlete of the Week
Maressa Mistretta The senior second baseman from Shirley, NY, drove in what proved to be the winning run with a solo homerun in the fifth inning of the softball team’s 6-1 victory over Centenary in the first round of the ECAC South Championship softball tournament.
