ALFRED, NY – Visiting Hartwick swept the Alfred University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams in a dual meet held Saturday afternoon at Lebohner Pool.
The Alfred men lost 188-87 to fall to 4-2 in dual meets this year; the Alfred women saw their record even at 4-4.
Freshman Carly Watson (Hyde Park,NY/FDR) won three individual events to pace the Alfred women. She won the 200 free (1:59.63), the 200 butterfly (2:15.98) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.63). Her time in the 200 fly established a new AU school record.
Senior Shelby Remington (Pike, NY/Letchworth) was second in the 1,000 freestyle (11:49.46); freshman Kelsey McRill (Solon, OH/Solon) was second in the 50 free (25.77); and junior Cassie Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) was second in 1-meter diving (213.80) and 3-meter diving (216.85).
The team of Behr, McRill, Watson and freshman Emma Gromelski (Clarks Summit, NY/Abington Heights) was second in the 200 medley relay (1:57.59).
Sophomores Dave Coombes (Dansville,NY/Dansville) and Zac Toth (Lockport,NY/Starpoint) were event winners for the Alfred men. Coombes took the 100 backstroke (55.89) and Toth won the 200 IM (2:03.36).
Freshman Dustin Whyte (Wrentham,MA/King Philip Regional) was second in the 1,000 free (10:28.53); junior Pete Sowinski (Akron,NY/Akron) was second in the 50 free (22.40); and senior Brett Irwin (Springwater, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) was second in the 100 butterfly (55.18).
The team of Toth, freshman Jake Olson (Dansville,NY/Dansville), Irwin and sophomore David Luke (Ocala,FL/West Port) was second in the 200 medley relay (1:42.06).
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Saturday, Jan. 26, at1 p.m., when the Saxons hostIthacain their final dual meet of the season.
