Bombers overwhelm Women’s Basketball, 69-39

ALFRED, NY-  The Alfred University women’s basketball team fell in a 69-39 decision, to Ithaca College Saturday afternoon at McLane Center.

Offensive rebounds (20 compared to AU’s 12) and turnovers (25 compared to Ithaca’s 11) hurt the Lady Saxons throughout the course of the contest as Ithaca’s halftime lead of 31-18 increased to 69-39 as the game came to a conclusion. For the game, Alfred shot 31 percent from the field, 21 percent from beyond the arc, and 40 percent from the free throw line.

Junior guard Rachael Stedman (Hamburg, NY/Springville Griffith) paced Alfred with a team-high 12 points.  Freshman guard Heather Hebert (Hilton, NY/Hilton) also scored 10 points and pulled down five rebounds. Junior forward Sarah Federico (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels) led the team in rebounding, grabbing seven, respectively.    

AU (5-11, 0-7 Empire 8) plays St. John Fisher on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 8 p.m. in an Empire 8 contest.

Maressa Mistretta The senior second baseman from Shirley, NY, drove in what proved to be the winning run with a solo homerun in the fifth inning of the softball team’s 6-1 victory over Centenary in the first round of the ECAC South Championship softball tournament.
