AU women’s basketball team falls to visiting Elmira

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team dropped a 62-53 decision to visiting Elmira in Empire 8 Conference action Tuesday evening in the McLane Center.

 

Alfred (4-8, 0-4 Empire 8) trailed 29-23 at the half and the visiting Soaring Eagles (5-7, 1-3 Empire 8) outscored the host Saxons 33-30 after intermission.

 

Freshman guard Heather Hebert (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored 13 points to lead Alfred. Sophomore guard Harley Cleary (Rochester, NY/Mercy) had 10 points and sophomore guard Emilea Harrison (Dansville) had eight for the Saxons, while freshman forward Hailey Sick (Dansville, NY/Dansville) pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

 

Maria Thannhauser had a game-high 18 points to lead three Elmira players in double figures. Jessica Zoltowski had 14 points and seven rebounds and Liz Forrest had 11 points.

 

Alfred is in action next on Friday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. at Stevens.
