Men’s Basketball edged by Penn College, 61-53

WILLIAMSPORT, PA-  The Alfred University men’s basketball team fell to Penn College in a 61-53 decision Tuesday evening on the road.

For the game, AU shot 32 percent from the field, 22 percent from beyond the arc, and 18 percent from the free throw line.

Senior forward Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) paced the Saxons with a team high 17 points and seven rebounds.  Behind Curran, senior guard Tim Costello (Windsor, NY/Windsor) added 12 points and three rebounds.  Senior forward Brett Dennis (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) tallied seven rebounds and five points.

AU (1-2-0, 0-0-0 Empire 8) squares off against Hilbert College on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 4 p.m.

Sean Locker The sophomore from Corning, NY, took second in the javelin throw at the Oneonta State Invitational outdoor track and field meet with a heave of 51.53 meters.

Maressa Mistretta The senior second baseman from Shirley, NY, drove in what proved to be the winning run with a solo homerun in the fifth inning of the softball team’s 6-1 victory over Centenary in the first round of the ECAC South Championship softball tournament.
