Empire 8 softball championship tournament games pushed back

ITHACA, NY - Due to rain overnight Thursday, the start times for Friday's games at the Empire 8 Conference softball championship tournament have been pushed back two hours.

The double elimination tournament is being held Friday and Saturday (May 4 and 5) at Ithaca College. The winner of the tournament earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA championships.

Today's opening first-round game, between second-seeded St. John Fisher and third-seeded Stevens, originally slated for 10 a.m., will now start at noon. Fourth-seeded Alfred's game against top-seeded Ithaca, originally scheduled for noon, will start at 2 p.m.

Friday's Game 3, between the losers of the Fisher-Stevens and AU-Ithaca games, originally scheduled for 2 p.m., will now start at 4 p.m. Game 4, between the winners of the Fisher-Stevens and AU-Ithaca games, originally scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, will now be played Saturday at a time to be announced.

Originally-scheduled Saturday games will now be played at to-be-announced times times. Following is the revised tournament schedule:

GAME 1: No. 2 St. John Fisher vs. No. 3 Stevens, 12 9.m., Friday, May 4.

GAME 2: No. 1 Ithaca vs. No. 4 Alfred, 2 p.m., Friday, May 4.

GAME 3: Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser, 4 p.m., Friday, May 4 (loser eliminated).

GAME 4: Game 1 winner vs. Game 2 winner, TBA, Saturday, May 5.

GAME 5: Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 loser, TBA, Saturday, May 5 (loser eliminated).

GAME 6: Game 4 winner vs. Game 5 winner, TBA. Saturday, May 5.

GAME 7 (if necessary): TBA, Saturday, May 5.
