Saxons fall to Oswego, 2-1

ALFRED, NY —The Alfred University men’s soccer team lost to visiting Oswego, 2-1, Tuesday evening.

Freshman forward Frankie Mannino (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) scored the lone goal for the Saxons with just over five minutes remaining in the first half.

Brandon Carnovale scored a goal for Oswego on an assist from Ryan Aman midway through the second half. Max Guliani scored the game winning goal for Oswego with just 2:50 remaining in regulation time.

Oswego (6-9-1) outshot Alfred 17-9. Sophomore goalie Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/ Thunder Ridge) and senior goalie Pat Grimmer (Bath, NY/Haverling) shared time in goal for Alfred. Grimmer made one save and Thorpe made four saves in the game. Nick Liberati, Marcus LaRobardiere, and Eric Kukura each saw time in goal for Oswego. Liberati made two saves in his 45 minutes of action and LaRobardiere and Kukura each made one save.

Alfred (5-9-1, 0-5-1 E8) is in action next on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. against host St. John Fisher.

Tyler Olsen The junior from Saratoga Springs, NY, won two individual races and swam on two winning relays in the men’s swimming and diving team’s win at Fredonia. Olsen won the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle and swam on the winning 200-yard medley and 200-yard free relays.

Athlete of the Week
Hannah Meier The senior forward from Rochester, NY, netted a team-high 11 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals as the women’s basketball team opened the season with am 81-42 victory over visiting Penn State-Dubois.
