AU English equestrian team places fourth in pair of weekend shows

PITTSFORD, NY — The Alfred University English equestrian team competed in a pair of shows over the weekend, placing fourth of 15 teams at each show. One show was hosted by RIT on Saturday, the other by Geneseo on Sunday; both were held at Lehman Farms in Pittsford, NY.

AU junior Danielle Ross (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s) won two first-place ribbons in the RIT-hosted show — in novice equitation over fences and novice equitation on the flat — and was named Reserve High Point rider.

Other AU riders earning first-place ribbons in the RIT show were: Barbara Koziol (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) in intermediate equitation over fences; junior Johanna Moore (Summit, NY/Morristown-Beard) in novice equitation over fences; sophomore Jessica Repanes (Hunting Station, NY) in advanced walk-trot-canter; and sophomore Katie LeSuer (Edinboro, PA/Cambridge Springs) in advanced walk-trot-canter.

Other top riders for AU in the RIT show included: Koziol and senior Beth Ulbrecht (Penn Furnace, PA/State College), second in intermediate equitation on the flat; senior Jess Tufariello (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ), second in open equitation over fences; sophomore Kalcy O’Keefe (Rochester, NY/Penfield), second in intermediate equitation over fences; and senior Kate West (Pavilion, NY/Pavilion), third in novice equitation over fences and novice equitation on the flat.

Taking first-place ribbons for Alfred in the Geneseo show on Sunday were; sophomore Zhenia Bemko (Cranford, NJ) in walk-trot; O’Keefe in intermediate equitation over fences; and junior Michelle Flannery (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) in novice equitation over fences.

Other top performers for AU on Sunday were: Ulbrecht, second in open equitation over fences and intermediate equitation on the flat; Koziol, second in intermediate equitation on the flat; freshman Tesla Parker (Waitsfield, VT), second in novice equitation on the flat; sophomore Ronja Ogrodnik (Spencer, NY/Spencer-Van Etten), third in advanced walk-trot-canter; Rapanes, second in advanced walk-trot-canter; freshman Sarah Schron (Whitehall, OH), third in advanced walk-trot-canter; West, second in intermediate equitation over fences; Ross, second in novice equitation over fences; and Flannery, second in novice equitation over fences.

The AU English equestrian team is in action next on Saturday, Nov. 14, in a show hosted by Nazareth, and Sunday, Nov. 15, in a show hosted by Geneseo. Both shows will be held at Lehman Farms in Pittsford.

Tyler Olsen The junior from Saratoga Springs, NY, won two individual races and swam on two winning relays in the men’s swimming and diving team’s win at Fredonia. Olsen won the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle and swam on the winning 200-yard medley and 200-yard free relays.

Athlete of the Week
Hannah Meier The senior forward from Rochester, NY, netted a team-high 11 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals as the women’s basketball team opened the season with am 81-42 victory over visiting Penn State-Dubois.
