7/22/09

ALFRED, NY -- Alfred University team was among the most improved women's basketball team's in all of Division III last season.

In Jay Murphy's first year as head coach, the Lady Saxons posted a 12-13 record. According to the NCAA, which issued the report on the most improved women's basketball teams, that marks a net improvement of nine games over the 2007-08 squad, which went 2-21. The nine-game improvement ranks fourth in the country among Division III schools, tied with Centre and Wilkes.

AU will return all but one letterwinner and starter (2009 graduate Melanie Jackson) from last year's squad. The Lady Saxons will be led by junior-to-be point guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell), an Empire 8 First Team all-star last season.
