Alfred University's 2011 inductees into the Sports Hall of Fame are Russell Young '87, Mark Obuszewski '93, Randy Wood '97, Todd Striker '01, Andrea Williamson '01.


Russell YoungRussell Young '87

Young earned track and field All-American honors in the indoor 800-meter run with his fourth-place finish in that event at the 1987 NCAA championships. He also won a state title in that event that season. He was an Independent Collegiate Athletic Conference (ICAC) champ in both the indoor 500-meter run (1987) and the outdoor 800-meter run (1987).

A four-year member of the AU indoor and outdoor teams, he still holds the school record for the 800-meter run in outdoor track and field (1:53.90), set in 1987, and was a member of the indoor distance medley relay team that holds the school record (10:37.21) set in 1984.

Mark ObuszewskiMark Obuszewski '93

Obuszewski was a First Team All-American safety for the Saxon football team in 1992. A four-year member of the team, he finished his career with 283 tackles, including 127 in 1992, which ranks as the fifth-most in a season in school history. He also had 13 career interceptions, including a team-high six as a junior in 1991, when he had three in a game against Canisius.

A team captain for the Saxons, Obuszewski was a member of the 1989 AU team that defeated Bridgewater State, 30-27, in the ECAC North Bowl Championship game.

Randy WoodRandy Wood '97

Wood was a two-time All-American defenseman during his four-year career at AU, earning United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Second Team honors in 1997 and USILA honorable mention honors in 1996. He is one of only three Saxon players ever to earn Second Team All-American recognition from the USILA.

A team captain and four-year letterwinner, Wood was a First Team Super Six defenseman for the Saxon in 1997, when he led the team in groundballs with 108. Twice during his career (1994 and 1997), the Saxons competed in the NCAA championships, finishing fifth in the final Division III national poll in 1994 and seventh in 1997. Twice (1995 and 1996), the team competed in the ECAC Upstate Championship tournament, winning the title in 1995.top^


Todd StrikerTodd Striker '01

Striker is one of he most decorated athletes in the Saxons' long and storied men's swimming and diving program. He was an All-American each of his four seasons at AU and for his career earned All-American certification 10 times (eight times in individual events and twice in relays). His best event at nationals was the 200-yard backstroke, in which he was an All-American four times, placing 13th in 1998, sixth in 1999, third in 2000, and fourth in 2001.

A team captain as a junior and senior, Striker held five individual records (100-yard and 200-yard freestyle; 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke, and 200-yard individual medley) and swam on two record-holding relays (200-yard and 400-yard freestyle). He still holds the school record for the 100-yard free (45.78 seconds) and 200-yard backstroke (1:50.36).

Andrea WilliamsonAndrea Williamson '01

Williamson was a four-year star on the women's volleyball team, leading the Saxons to the program's only NCAA appearance in 1999. The team also competed in three state championship tournaments (1997, 1999 and 2000) and one ECAC championship tournament (2000) during her career.

A team captain has a junior and senior, Williamson was a Second Team Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) all-star as a freshman in 1997, when she ranked ninth in the nation in blocks per game, and a Second Team Empire 8 Conference all-star as a senior in 2000. She holds school career records for total blocks (697), solo blocks (417), kills (1,628) and digs (1,606) and single-season records for kills (482) and digs (552).
