AU English TeamHead Coach: Nancy Kohler

Membership
The English Equestrian Team (AUET) is made up of varsity and junior varsity riders at nine levels, from walk/trot to the open division. The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) welcomes all riders from beginner to riders who have competed at the upper levels.

Practices
Varsity - two times per week
Junior varsity - once per week

All students are welcome to try out for the team. Tryouts are held at the start of the fall semester and the selection committee chooses riders from a wide range of skill levels and backgrounds. Criteria include:

"The AUET English Team is a fun competitive team. It gives you an opportunity to improve your riding by receiving viewpoints from a head coach and an assistant coach. You meet more people and make more friends. Traveling to shows is fun and allows you to hang out with a diverse group of people. Team practice gives you a break from everyday schoolwork while providing exercise. Ultimately, you get to spend time with people you enjoy while participating in a sport you love."
- Shaina (sophomore)
Selection
• Commitment to the team.
• Commitment to self-improvement.
• Ability to safely ride unfamiliar horses.

Students not selected for the varsity team have an opportunity to participate on the junior varsity team.

All Equestrian teams are fully supported by Alfred University. There are no out-of-pocket expenses for the student.

Competition
Intercollegiate competition is unique in that all riders compete on randomly drawn horses supplied by the school hosting the event. The rider, not the horse, is judged during the competition.

Approved helmets are required for all lessons and competitions. Varsity team members are responsible for their own show clothing and helmet.
